NextGen CJA Attorneys

If you require assistance with your PACER account, please contact the PACER Service Center at pacer@psc.uscourts.gov or 1-800-676-6856.

NextGen CJA Attorneys

CJA Panel Attorneys will need only one PACER account for filing and viewing in NextGen. If you have a separate exempt CJA account now, those exempt privileges will need to be added to your individual upgraded PACER account.

Verify Legacy or Upgraded Individual Account

Follow these steps to determine if you have a legacy or upgraded individual PACER account

Only upgraded PACER accounts can successfully access the NextGen version of CM/ECF. If you have not upgraded your account, you will not be able to file in the Massachusetts District Court. If you do not yet have a PACER account, please follow these instructions to register for a PACER account.

Upgrade your PACER Account

If you determined that you have a legacy PACER account in the previous step, follow these steps to upgrade your PACER account.

If you already have an upgraded PACER account, continue to the next step.

Activate CJA Privileges

Below are instructions for activating CJA privileges if you are (1) an existing CJA attorney with a PACER exempt account in a NextGen court; (2) a newly appointed CJA attorney with an existing PACER account; or (3) a newly appointed CJA attorney with no PACER account.

Set your CJA Exempt Status

The next generation (NextGen) of CM/ECF provides a new toggle feature that allows you to switch from non-exempt to exempt status when performing CJA-related work, which is exempt from PACER fees. This feature is available only if you have been appointed as a CJA attorney.

Navigating Between Courts

The setting of exempt CJA status does not carry over from one NextGen court to another nor does it carry over to a CurrentGen court. When in a NextGen court, you must reset your status anytime you go to another NextGen court or a CurrentGen court. When in a CurrentGen court, you will need to reset your status anytime you go a NextGen court or a CurrentGen court runing district CM/ECF v6.3.
